How to play Word Duel

Word Duel is a free browser word puzzle. Read the clue, guess the hidden word, and use the colours to narrow down the answer. No download or account is needed.

Choose a mode

• Today: a random question with unlimited guesses. Solve it, then start another question.
• Levels: ten levels of increasing difficulty. Higher levels allow fewer guesses.
• Practice: browse all questions by level and reveal the answer and explanation when you want to study.
• Duel: create a private room, share the code, and race a friend to solve the same question.

How the grid works

Fill one row from left to right. The number of boxes is the number of letters in the answer.

• Green means the letter is correct and in the correct position.
• Yellow means the letter is in the answer but in a different position.
• Grey means the letter is not in the answer.

Repeated letters are counted one at a time. If the answer contains one N and you guess two, only one N can turn green or yellow.

Vietnamese answers

Vietnamese answers are displayed with accents, but you can type without accents. For example, TRĂNG can be entered as TRANG. The game normalises both forms before checking the guess.

Guess limits

• Today: unlimited guesses.
• Levels 1–4: 6 guesses.
• Levels 5–6: 5 guesses.
• Levels 7–10: 4 guesses.
